The Village of the Arts is 36 acres just south of downtown Bradenton: more than 200 cottages and bungalows from the 1920s through the 1950s, zoned so artists can live and work in the same house. Enclosures here are small: a screened front porch on a bungalow, a back lanai off a studio, a modest cage over a courtyard pool. None are original; the houses predate the idea.
Screen frames were fastened into wood and old stucco decades after the houses were built, with zinc-coated or aluminum screws that rust in humid air and fatigue with every wind cycle. Milton's wind in October 2024 worked those connections hard. A porch that now rattles, or mesh that has let go along one edge, says as much about screw age as about the storm. Stainless fastener replacement renews every connection once, screen panel repair covers a loose panel, and lanai and porch rescreening is for a porch due all the way around.
The Village is inside the city, so permits go through the City of Bradenton; screening an existing roofed porch usually needs none.
