Made safe first. Loose panels, hanging mesh, and any member swinging free get secured on the first visit so nothing else comes down and nobody gets hurt on the pool deck.
Photographed before removal. If you plan to talk to your insurer, the damage needs to be documented before anything is cut away or hauled off. The contractor will say so and will wait for your photos if you have not taken them yet.
Rescreened, on a stated schedule. After a widespread storm the queue is real. You will be told where you are in it when you call, and the made-safe visit does not wait for the rescreen slot.
Many Florida policies put screen enclosures under Coverage B, other structures, often capped at a fraction of the dwelling coverage, and some now exclude screen wind damage without an endorsement. Hurricane deductibles run as a percentage of the home's coverage. Read your policy's Coverage B before the storm, not after. Your photos build the file; your insurer decides the claim.
Torn and blown-out panels are the obvious part. The contractor also checks the bracing cables and their anchors, the fasteners at every beam and upright, and whether the frame sits square. A cage that survived with its screen shredded but its frame straight is a rescreen. A cage with creased members or a racked door opening is frame repair, which is permitted work everywhere in Manatee County and in every flood zone on the island.
Manatee County waived hurricane-repair permit fees from the end of September 2024 into May 2025, which is roughly how long recovery ran. Any repair in a flood zone needs a permit, which covers Anna Maria, Holmes Beach, Bradenton Beach, and Cortez. The contractor knows which of the five permit desks applies to your address.
